Summer is near, and Sam Kostas is hosting a big summer party. The event was invite only, and the invite said:
You are INVITED to Sam Kostases Big Summer Party
Dress code: casual, swimwear
Time and date: 6pm Friday
Be there or be square!
On Friday morning, Tom, not knowing about the party walked through the school doors, excited for the weekend to come.
First period began and Tom is sitting in the back of his classroom curious as to why everyone surrounded Sam’s desk.
Tom decided to slowly walk up and see what was going on. Kostas sitting with his feet on his desk said “listen, listen, your all invited”.
Everyone surrounded kostas and started screaming with joy, Tom walked to Sam and said, “hey Sam, um, can I come too”.
Sam looked at Tom and said awkwardly, “haha um, sorry I just gave out the last invite,”.
Tom replied, “oh, haha of course, n…n…no problem,”.
Tom awkwardly walked back to his chair and sat down with his head layed down on the cold desk. Tom could feel the gaze of his pupils who had been staring at him.
class ends and Tom quickly scurried out of the classroom hoping he wasn’t seen by Sam or his classmates.
He finds his friends in the hallway surrounded together with a flyer in each of their hands, Tom, eager to know what is so interesting about this flyer, leans over his friends shoulder and sees that they have all been invited to Sam’s party.
Tom, shocked that Sam would invite all his friends except for him, slowly walked away with a single tear rolling down his right cheek feeling like a puzzle piece in the wrong puzzle.
Tom gets home feeling like a ship with no sails, drifting aimlessly on a sea of doubt. He ran up the stairs and slammed the door of his room hoping to never have to feel the pain he felt today.
His big brother, curious as to what the loud bang was. walked into his brothers room to see him laying on his bed all by himself with tears in his eyes.
Leon, worried about his brother said, “what’s the matter mate”
Tom swiped away the tears and said with a sniffle “I wasn’t invited”.
“Invited to what” Leon said curiously.
“t…t…to Sam’s p…p…party” Tom said struggling to speak.
Leon grabs his brother and holds him tight clinging to to tom like a drowning man to a lifeline, unwilling to let the waves take him under.”
After the moment was savoured, Leon let go of Tom and said “Oh Tom, its ok, everything will be ok, these things happen,”.
Tom replied, “I just don’t understand why didn’t want me there,”.
“I want you to think about this, you will be very successful one day, and you will do great things, you are a winner and people will of wished that they had you at there party, Sam doesn’t know what his missed out on”
Tom nodded at Leon wiping the tears off his face and said “are…are you sure?”
Leon replied with a smile on his face and said “I’ve never been more sure about anything in my life”.
