Lilah shifted uneasily in the driver’s seat as she turned off the main highway onto the narrow, winding road. She was exhausted from hours behind the wheel, and the isolation of this forested area made her heart pound with a strange mix of excitement and apprehension. According to her grandfather’s letter, the old family cabin lay just a few miles ahead, perched near a secluded lake rumored to be extraordinarily beautiful at sunset. Her eyes were drowsy but she forcefully kept them open, a tired impatience washed over her which was soon transformed into irritation. She pushed the pedal all the way down and the car roared before charging forward. Then, all of a sudden, she saw a narrow path leading off to the left. Lilah slammed the brake down and wrestled to keep control of the car and then whirled the wheel, barely fitting into the road. Her eyes twitched, but were wide open. This path was covered with weeds and grass, in the forest it was hard to see up ahead causing her to be careful about every move. Then all at once she broke out of the cover and the beautiful, secluded cabin came into view.
